Benjamin
by Brad Scott
Benjamin is the 12th and last son of Ya'aqov (Jacob). Benjamin is the only son who has a name that is a contraction of two names. Benjamin was closely aligned with Judah when the kingdom split under Solomon. Although Yeshua‘ was from Judah, He also expressed in His life the two names given to Benjamin when he was born.
Benjamin (בנימן) was first named Ben'oniy (בן־אוני), which is generally translated as son of my sorrow. The word comes from 'on (עון) which is dominantly translated as iniquity or sorrow because of iniquity. The Holy Spirit named this boy to point to Yeshua‘’s first coming when He would carry our sorrows, be wounded for our transgressions, and would have laid upon Him the 'on or iniquity of us all. Yeshua‘’s second coming will see the fulfillment of the name of Benjamin, which is what his father named him.
Bere’shiyt (Genesis) 35:18And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.
Benjamin means son of my right hand and comes from a contraction of two words ben (בן),which means son or builder, and yamiyn (ימין) which is the Hebrew word for the right hand. One day soon the fulfillment of Benjamin will come to pass as Yeshua‘ stands up from the right hand of God and begins to level the playing field. Then we will know who has the good seed and who has only the seed sown by the enemy.
