Television
by Brad Scott
Ah yes, the television. How could we exist without it. Well, generation upon generation before us survived just fine without it. This word is a combination of two words, tele and vision. The Greek word tele, means far off or distant. The modern television is simply viewing something that is far away right in your own living room. This word comes from the Hebrew word tul (טול), pronounced tool. This word means to throw something or even to cast something down. Television is only a video signal that is thrown or telecast from afar. Here are two scriptural examples.
Yiremeyahu (Jeremiah) 16:13Therefore will I cast you out of this land into a land that ye know not, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve other gods day and night, where I will not show you favor.
Mizemor (Psalm) 37:24Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for YHVH upholdeth him with his hand.
In scripture, the idea of viewing something that is far off is called prophecy. Prophecy from YHVH Himself is viewing something that will surely happen, as opposed to the kind of prophecy most of the rest of the world gets from the television!
