Life
by Brad Scott
According to the words of our Master, He came not only to give us life, but abundant life. He is the way, the truth, and the life, and His disciples told Him that there was no where else they could go because He had the words of life. The English word life is generally translated from the Hebrew word chay. This word finds it's parent root in chayah (חבה). It is the meaning of the individual letters that form this rather abstract word that contain its most profound purpose.
The chet is a fence or a wall. The yod is not just the hand, but the hand that works, energizes and performs. The hey is a man with outstretched arms beholding His Creator. These three letters show His hand removing the wall or barrier that keeps us from beholding our Creator. This is why the 119th Psalm is replete with teachings that it is His word that gives us liberty that we may live to behold His wonderous works contained in His Torah (Mizemor (Psalm) 119:17-18).
It behooves us to remember that before Yeshua‘ told us that He was the Good Shepherd that gives us abundant life, He told us that He was the door and that if any man enter in, he shall go in and out and find good pasture (Yochanan (John) 10:9). This is true freedom. This is life!
Shalom Alecheim! ◊
